چکیده
Abstract. In this article we aim to study finite volume approximations which approximate the solutions of convection-dominated problems possessing the so-called interior transition layers. The stiffness of such problems is due to a small parameter multiplied to the highest order derivative which introduces various transition layers at the boundaries and at the interior points where certain compatibility conditions do not meet. Here, we are interested in resolving interior transition layers at turning points. The proposed semi-analytic method features interior layer correctors which are obtained from singular perturbation analysis near the turning points. We demonstrate this method is efficient, stable and it shows 2-order convergence in the approximations.

Numerical Approximation of Two-dimensional Convection-diffusion Equations with Multiple Boundary Layers
In this article, we demonstrate how one can improve the numerical solution of singularly perturbed problems involving multiple boundary layers by using a combination of analytic and numerical tools. Incorporating the structures of boundary layers into finite element spaces can improve the accuracy of approximate solutions and result in significant simplifications. We discuss here convection-dif...
متن کاملSemi-Lagrangian Runge-Kutta Exponential Integrators for Convection Dominated Problems
In this paper we consider the case of nonlinear convectiondiffusion problems with a dominating convection term and we propose exponential integrators based on the composition of exact pure convection flows. The main reason for developing this type of methods is that as it turns out they can be applied to the numerical integration of the considered PDEs in a semi-Lagrangian fashion. SemiLagrangi...
متن کاملConstruction of Boundary Layer Elements for Singularly Perturbed Convection-diffusion Equations and L- Stability Analysis
It has been demonstrated that the ordinary boundary layer elements play an essential role in the finite element approximations for singularly perturbed problems producing ordinary boundary layers. Here we revise the element so that it has a small compact support and hence the resulting linear system becomes sparse, more precisely, block tridiagonal. We prove the validity of the revised element ...
متن کاملFinite Volume Approximation of One-dimensional Stiff Reaction-convection Equations
In this work, we present a novel method to approximate stiff problems using a finite volume (FV) discretization. The stiffness is caused by the existence of a small parameter in the equation which introduces a boundary layer. The semi-analytic method consists in adding in the finite volume space the boundary layer corrector which encompasses the singularities of the problem. We verify the stabi...
متن کاملThe numerical values of the nodal points for the Sturm-Liouville equation with one turning point
An inverse nodal problem has first been studied for the Sturm-Liouville equation with one turning point. The asymptotic representation of the corresponding eigenfunctions of the eigenvalues has been investigated and an asymptotic of the nodal points is obtained. For this problem, we give a reconstruction formula for the potential function. Furthermore, numerical examples have been established a...
